As an iPhone 13 Pro user for over a year, and despite all the reviews related to the 14 Pro, I decided to replace my old 13 Pro with a new 14 Pro.

My first impression was nothing special, as I moved from an already excellent phone to a slightly improved 13 Pro, as I thought at the time. As time passed, I noticed that the camera had advanced in every aspect, including the digital zoom, which is now significantly higher in quality and detail compared to the 13 Pro. Although I avoid using digital zoom, the 2x (crop from 48mpx to 12mpx) and 3x optical 77mm zoom are truly excellent, and the 2x zoom fills the gap between the Wide camera and the Tele camera, making everything about the camera much more pleasant. Speaking of the ultra-wide camera, I can say that the photos are noticeably better compared to the 13 Pro. Macro mode is now literally essential because it is no longer possible to take close-up photos with the Wide camera, unless 2x zoom is used. The front camera has received autofocus (AF), and I haven't noticed any significant differences (although I don't use it excessively).

The first thing I noticed when I switched from the 13 Pro to the 14 Pro was the thinner bezels or frame around the screen, as well as the lack of a "notch" and the appearance of the new dynamic island, which I initially found unconvincing, and I didn't really pay much attention to it. However, while using it, I realized how useful that "island" could be and how much more advanced it could be if developers worked on it a bit more. I also noticed that the screen brightness is significantly better in direct sunlight, making everything visible even on a sunny day.

Battery life has received many negative reviews compared to the 13 Pro, but fortunately, the 14 Pro has proven to be significantly better than the 13 Pro with a screen on time (SOT) of more than an hour, of course, the AOD (always-on display) is turned off from the first moment. Based on my experience, I can confidently say that the battery life is exceptional.

The sound reproduced by the speakers is also better than the previous model, and I can safely say that the sound is fantastic.

One feature that is promoted but not available for me to try in Serbia is the SOS via satellite, and my personal opinion is that this option is very useful for hikers and the like. Crash detection also sounds very useful, and it is also a new feature that the 14th generation phones have received.

In conclusion, I can say that the difference between the two models is not overly significant, but on the other hand, it is not small either. It all depends on the perspective from which the phones are viewed. Specifically, the cameras are essential to me, so every upgrade matters. While some social media users may not need to consider a newer generation.

The advantages of the 14 Pro over the 13 Pro that I would highlight are:

  • The Wide camera 48mpx, which takes fantastic photos at full resolution
  • The Ultra-wide camera, which takes noticeably better photos
  • The Zoom camera, even though it uses the same sensor and optics as the A16, makes everything look fantastic and better compared to the previous model in post-processing.
  • The screen is fantastic, and there isn't much to complain about.
  • The speakers are fantastic.
  • The A16 may not seem like much on paper, but it performs well in practice.
